Project: Building 52

Building 52 is a historic structure located at Fort Leavenworth, KS, in the middle of the Landmark Historic District. The building is a high priority, high visibility structure for both the installation as well as the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office.

Treanor Architects serves as the preservation consultant to Gossen Livingston and was contacted for tower restoration after large pieces of masonry fell from the Building 52 tower in spring 2008. The tower, constructed c. 1907, is part of a National Landmark Historic District at Fort Leavenworth. Treanor was contracted to perform a close up, aerial inspection of the tower from the copper dome down to the level of adjacent rooflines. The study documented existing conditions of the tower and identified causes of deterioration. Short-term stabilization measures to be undertaken in the fall of 2008 were developed with the structural consultant. Long-term recommendations for permanent, appropriate repairs to this landmark of the Leavenworth skyline also were formulated.
