Margaret Hashinger Hall is an eight-story residential facility that was built in 1962 to serve primarily as a women's residence hall for the University of Kansas. Since that time, it has evolved into the residential center for the creative arts and the premier residential space for students studying fine arts. The University of Kansas retained Treanor Architects to design and develop plans to completely renovate the building's 121,190 square feet.

Charrette sessions revealed that students wanted to keep the traditional two-person bedroom plan with common restroom facilities. The program provides housing for 385 students. Specialty spaces include a multi-purpose theater, music practice rooms, textile room, painting room, dance studio, and multiple conference and study rooms.

To serve the needs of Hashinger Hall and four surrounding residential halls, Treanor designed a full-service coffee house, Euro-kitchen and convenience store - all adjacent to ample indoor seating and a large outdoor deck with a panoramic view of KU's main campus.

Hashinger Hall was outfitted with a new mechanical, electrical and plumbing system and was made ADA accessible, bringing the hall into compliance with current codes.

The renovation broke ground in summer 2005. The newly renovated Hashinger Hall opened for the 2006-2007 school year.
