Amway Grand Plaza Hotel Completed

Posted by: WPF Engineering | Sep, 23rd

Project: Amway Grand Plaza Hotel

This project was challenging as this space is where three different buildings connect, all with very different styles.  The lighting design needed to combine all these styles as well as provide suitable lighting for convention exhibitions as well as evening events.   RGB LED cove lighting was utilized to illuminate the ceiling.  This allows the hotel to modify the color of the ceiling based on rental requests. A mock-up of the ceiling panels was done to aid in finalizing the details of the custom cove ceiling sections which covered up the original open steel tube truss ceiling.   Natural daylight is coming in from above just West of the cove ceiling, dimmable fluorescent downlights can be adjusted for energy savings.  Small glass LED pendant clusters give an  elegent feel to the space.  Three Ring LED pendants were used to depict the three buildings coming together. Existing exterior lighting was reused to wash the exterior of the exhibitors building which can be viewed from inside the concourse. The architectural finishes along with the lighting provide a sophisticated, intriguing space.

Project: Courtyard Marriott

The  Courtyard Marriott, located in Downtown Grand Rapids, is over 20 years old with little renovation done to the property during this time period. The Marriott Corporation design team recommended a complete demolition of the lobby, restaurant and offices on the main floor with major changes to the interior. We also renovated the second  floor concourse of the facility.  A whole new look was given to the space.  New pendants in the atrium lobby and in the elevator lobbies were customized for the space.  LED downlights were used throughout minimizing maintenance and overall energy draw for the space.  Lighting and power in the restaurant/bar was modified throughout the space meeting the new look and updated design for laptop use in the space.  This provides a comfortable environment for business travelers to grab a snack while catching up on work.
