As part of the City's "Better Jacksonville Plan", the facility is surrounded by an undulating pond and field of native swaying Bahia grass to emphasize the Prairie Style Architecture.  The building has large overhangs and other detailing consistent with the architectural style which maintains the character even in the furniture and fixtures throughout.  The grand space includes an adult reading area, with stacks and technology areas, raised clerestory roof and major window assembly capturing the strong views toward the tree hammock.
