Project: Boizao Brazillian Steakhouse

A cutting edge concept with cutting edge architecture! rojo Architecture converted an existing retail shell into Boizao, an exclusive Brazillian Steakhouse. The urban design features a custom designed bar, wine cellar, center sculpture, entry features and logo wall. The resulting space is a true delivery of concept, from the plan layout to bathroom finishes. rojo Architecture captures the essences of earth, fire and water into a unique dining experience. The design was a collaboration from the entire rojo team and the owners, without whose concept and trust none of this would have been possible.

ISPC Corporate Offices Completed

Project: ISPC Corporate Offices

The design process of ISPC’s new building was an exploration of business, image, and (of course) budget. Through a series of programming exercises, ROJO came to understand management, workflows, corporate image and the diverse personalities that make up the ISPC team. What resulted is a working machine. Unabridged with fuel, gears and drive-shaft, the building purrs like a corporate hotrod. Departments were analyzed and allocated space within the building early, allowing a large atrium space to generate and serve as a central meeting point. The front face of ISPC is comprised of bold modern lines, highlighted with deep blues and a visually anchoring copper entry canopy. Behind this corporate face, the atrium expands and acts as the heart of the building. The design rotated around this atrium and allowed the back façade of the building to contrast the front. Nestled in trees, the asymmetrical rear embraces parking, providing a much-appreciated green space for the ISPC team.

As the design evolved, it was clear that the project had become more than a building, but an opportunity to create something special. What was originally intended to house a financing company had turned into a corporate image and a project that would surely affect the surrounding community. Building systems and interior materials were analyzed for their sustainability while Florida-friendly landscaping and solar powered exterior lights were incorporated into the design. Natural lighting was important to the managers and was a priority in the organization of windows and indirect lighting. The building’s sustainability became a practice that ISPC had been preaching for 25 years with their solar water heating products and associated financing solutions. The placement of the building also allowed a large number of trees on the site to be saved, creating a canopy of trees in the back for the employees’ green space.

The interiors of the building were designed by ROJO’s sister company, Red Décor Interiors. The in-house interiors firm worked closely with ROJO’s architects to bring the design of the exterior to the materiality and feel of the inside. Warm woods contrasted with milled metals to convey a high-tech look which was softened through color. Bold accents are surprisingly appropriate in this corporate environment. It succeeds in invigorating business. Departments were defined by palette with common denominators of tone and pattern. The contemporary artwork was also coordinated and specified by Red Décor Interiors. The culminating moment happens in the atrium, where wood panels and custom light features accent the ROJO designed mobile hanging just off-center. The piece, locally built by the craftsmen at Stack Design, introduces human scale to the 35’ high ceilings and brings breath to the space.

Bollenback Builders came into the process early and contributed cost-saving ideas and scheduling solutions. They were at the design table and were key players in the finalization of the look and detailing of the building. This collaboration paired with Bollenback’s understanding of the design evolution was a key factor in the success of the project. “We treated them just like any other designer,” said project manager Swapnali Salunkhe “they brought a unique expertise and were a great contribution to the process.”
