Petra Construction Corporation

The construction of the new student recreation center is unique in that the University of New Haven (UNH) selected Petra Construction Corporation as both Program Manager and Construction Manager to guide them through the largest single Construction project in their history. The project was challenged long before ground breaking by land encumbrances, unstable soil, Building Code changes, and unanticipated rock.  Petra proposed a hybrid pre-engineered steel system and a custom store-front glass window system to keep the project within budget.  Over 250 aggregate piers were installed to support the massive building.  To reduce project costs, more than 2,500 cubic yards of soil was relocated to another part of the campus for landscaping improvements, as opposed to hauling it further to an off-site location.  The completed project is the focal point of a campus transformation that is elevating The University of New Haven to an entirely new level of recognition amongst its peer institutions.
