Story

Tooling Systems Group is a family of industrial stamping, mold tooling, assembly system, steel plate fabrication, machinery sales and contract machining companies.  They occupy over 275,000 square feet of floor space and employ over 300 professionals to serve both government and private industry customers.   Tooling Systems Group purchased a Grand Rapids manufacturing plant in order to support operations for stamping presses and milling machines.

Kent Companies was contacted by D&K Construction to support the facility renovations and to build a foundation for a Union Mill machine.  In order to construct the deep sections of the foundation, Kent performed demolition of the existing floor, excavation of over 1000 cubic yards of soil and dewatering.  The foundation included over 13,000 pounds of resteel and 150 cubic yards of concrete.  

Kent’s design included the installation of 100 machine mounting pockets.  Kent’s team developed a procedure to create these pockets with an inside taper that allowed for the grout poured around the anchor bolts to be locked into place.  Today, Tooling Systems Group uses this repurposed manufacturing facility to deliver better timing, quality and savings to its clients.
