Private Home

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Concrete-Contractor

Story

At this Grand Rapids, Michigan home, the owner, many years ago, added a bedroom to the rear of the home. The addition was not built on a basement.  Instead, a shallow footing was used that extended from the back corner of the original house out toward a steep bank overlooking a natural area.  In time, the room settled with the worst movement closest to the steep bank.  It appeared that the bank, under the load of the addition, coupled with erosion and the freeze/thaw cycle, caused consolidation or sloughing of the soil.  This allowed the room to settle.

The most cost and time effective method of repair was to install 5 helical piers and mudjack the interior floor.   Kent Companies' crew spaced piers around the perimeter of the addition and installed to 20 foot depths, lifting the addition's foundation.  Kent Companies' crew utilized mudjacking to lift and restore the addition's interior floor.  The property owners now have the security of a stable foundation and a level floor.
