Ebaugh Laboratory :: Denison University

Granville, Ohio

Architectural

Story

After fourteen months of construction, the 52,000 square foot $12 million Ebaugh Laboratories Addition and Renovation Project is completed. Originally built in 1966, Ebaugh Laboratories was in need of a renovation. Now, Ebaugh Laboratories is a state-of-the-art chemistry and biochemistry facility with 19,250 square feet of new space, greater functionality and new laboratory systems to meet the current needs of the Chemistry and Biochemistry programs. There are sixteen laboratories throughout the building which are furnished with a combination of maple veneer cabinets, metal cabinets, chemical resistant epoxy countertops, fume hoods, laboratory HVAC controls for exhaust, and supply air and thirteen different service utilities to accommodate different laboratory systems ranging from nitrogen to processed chilled water.  To put the complexity of the laboratories into perspective, there is over one mile of piping installed on the 1st floor alone!

Ebaugh is registered with the certification goal of LEED® Silver.  With this extensive renovation, recycling is only one of the many LEED procedures that were implemented on this project.  Other procedures include: light pollution reduction, water efficient landscaping, water use reduction, building re-use, use of regional materials, increased ventilation and use of low-emitting materials.

This challenging project was completed on time and under budget – in fact substantial completion of the project was obtained two weeks ahead of schedule. This afforded Denison the opportunity to begin their extensive move-in process two weeks early.

The excitement of the faculty and students is summed up best by a new word coined by the students to describe the building- "Ebaughsome!”
