Thornapple River Redux
Reconceptualizing for a 21st Century Family
Story
After a frustrating search for a ‘forever home,’ our clients went to Plan B: Buy in a great location, gut the existing structure and renovate. Modernizing the home entailed dramatically opening the floor plan, adding abundant rear windows and a deck to enhance enjoyment of the nearby riverfront, installing a show-stopping kitchen - featuring a television that disappears into a banquette when not in use - and zoning the home to improve efficiency once the kids head off to college. At a time when property for new builds is increasingly hard to obtain, this project deserves recognition for demonstrating how a visionary design team can breathe new life and longevity into a home through renovations.
