Driesenga & Associates, Inc. provided civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture for what is to be a LEED certified facility. In efforts to provide environmentally sensitive site design, a roof water collection system was designed to provide a source of water for the developed landscape areas. Project Management included coordination of simultaneous street reconstruction, existing hospital campus operations, demolition and construction of the Hauenstein center and adjacent 550 space parking structure. As well as synchronization between active members of design team which included: Architect, Owner, structural engineer, mechanical engineer and parking consultants. The Hauenstein Center of Saint Mary’s Hospital will bring together both inpatient and outpatient neurological services under one roof for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases including: Alzheimer’s, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and spine disorders, resulting in higher levels of service and convenience for their patients and families. The site is in an urban historic district, at the center of a fully functioning medical campus in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, MI. In conjunction with the onsite improvement, efforts where coordinated with the City of Grand Rapids as they redeveloped the adjacent City streets and created one of the City’s first round-about at the northwest corner of the site.
