Burnham Pointe, a planned 483,000 gsf residential development in Chicago’s south Loop, consists of a 29-story tower of approximately 298 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and an attached low-rise component housing structured parking and ground-floor retail. Featuring a curtainwall of glass with metal panels, the development has distinctive elements at the upper corners to serve as beacons that give the building a unique identity within the surrounding cityscape. Balconies for each residential unit work with the floor-to-ceiling glass cladding to assimilate the outdoors into indoor living spaces. The decision to assign parking to an adjoining structure instead of to the tower’s base brings livable spaces closer to the ground, helping to create a more active and pedestrian oriented streetscape. Retail amenities on the ground level of the brick-clad garage portion also invite street activity and enhance the vitality of the urban neighborhood.
