Traverse City Senior Center

Traverse City, MI

Story

A beautiful building in a terrific location. The new Senior Center was a long time in the making and seeing the project come to life was special to many folks in the community who worked hard for several years to make it a reality. The project itself was complex in nature; wood framed but also with structural steel. Wood trusses with both a living roof and standing seam metal roof. There is no gas line to the building; it is fueled by a geothermal system with wells that live under the tennis courts.

Inside, high end finishes with trim and window details really pop with the different varieties of base, casing, wood wall paneling and flooring types. Beautiful wood doors with black hardware sync with the black sliding patio doors that overlook West Grand Traverse Bay. The “wave” ceilings in the main corridors are a unique feature that accent the walls and flooring.

The Senior Center design was very well thought out and maximizes both its location and ability to meet modern energy efficiencies. There is no doubt it is already a favorite landmark for its users in the area. The space it provides for learning, exercise and companionship will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
