City of Traverse City Parks signage fabrication and installation

Phase 1

Traverse City, MI

Story

The Traverse City Parks Signage Project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing over 30 parks across Traverse City with new, durable, and visually appealing signs. The project included the installation of over 140 regulatory signs and 27 large identification (ID) signs, carefully designed and crafted to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the parks while providing essential information to visitors. Phase 1 of this project is now complete, with Phase 2 currently underway.

Project Highlights:

1. Scope and Execution:
• Over 140 regulatory signs were installed throughout the parks, providing clear instructions and regulations such as “No Dogs,” “No Alcohol,” and park hours.
• Approximately 27 large ID signs were installed to enhance park entrances and provide a welcoming experience to visitors.

2. Materials and Design:
• The plans and designs for the signs were created by Corbin Design, incorporating both functionality and aesthetics to fit the unique environments of Traverse City parks. Their expertise ensured the signs were clear, easy to read, and aligned with the park's natural beauty.
• Image360 proofed the designs to ensure they met the client’s specifications and then constructed the signs with a focus on durability and longevity.
• The use of Corten steel for the signposts was a strategic choice, providing a natural-looking patina that blends seamlessly with the park environment while offering long-lasting durability.
• A unique, multi-layered paint mask with a clear coat was applied to the signs, enhancing their appearance and protecting them from the elements, ensuring they remain vibrant and intact for many years to come.

3. Construction and Installation:
• The dedicated team at Image360 took on the construction and installation of all signs, maintaining high standards of quality throughout the process. Our team carefully followed the proofed designs to ensure every detail was executed correctly.
• The kiosk signs, particularly those with stretched wire mesh, presented unique construction challenges that our team expertly managed, ensuring a sturdy and visually appealing final product.

4. Community Impact:
• These signs serve a critical role in maintaining safety, providing clear guidance, and enhancing the overall park experience for visitors. The project also garnered significant community interest, especially regarding the old signs, which were raffled off or sold as nostalgic memorabilia.
• The project underscores our commitment to quality craftsmanship and our dedication to enhancing community spaces. By replacing outdated signage with new, high-quality materials, we’ve helped preserve the parks' natural beauty and provided a more welcoming and informative experience for all visitors.

Conclusion:
The Traverse City Parks Signage Project demonstrates the impact of thoughtful design, high-quality materials, and skilled craftsmanship in community improvement projects. As Phase 2 commences, we continue to strive for excellence, ensuring that every sign exceeds the expectations of both the city and its residents.
