The Faircliff is a transformative 125-unit affordable housing development in Washington, D.C.'s Columbia Heights neighborhood. Completed in December 2024, it replaces the former Faircliff Plaza East, increasing access to high-quality housing for low-income residents. Developed by Somerset Development Company, Jonathan Rose Companies, and Housing Up, The Faircliff provided additional affordable units for households earning at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI), including 23 spacious three-bedroom apartments that promote family stability and opportunity. The Faircliff is an eight-story, all-electric building that integrates modern amenities for an enhanced resident experience. Key features include a landscaped courtyard with a playground, a community room, a learning library, a fitness center, a rooftop event space, and free high-speed Wi-Fi. With sustainability at its core, the development includes a green roof with a 67 kW solar array, 19 electric vehicle charging stations, and carbon-injected concrete, which captures over 1.1 million kilograms of carbon. The project aims to achieve Passive House Institute U.S. (Phius) and LEED Platinum certification. Helix Electric played a vital role in powering The Faircliff, delivering comprehensive electrical solutions for both essential and advanced building systems. As the electrical contractor, Helix installed all electrical power, lighting, fire alarm systems, and the emergency response DAS system. Helix also ensured seamless connectivity by providing structured pathways for telecom subcontractors, supporting reliable internet, telephone, television, security, and access control throughout the building. Furthermore, Helix worked closely with the solar contractor to integrate the solar power system, securing crucial green building credits and reinforcing the project’s sustainability goals. Helix Electric’s approach emphasized teamwork and adaptability, fostering strong coordination with all contractors to deliver high-quality, affordable homes for the community. Through these collaborative efforts and precise execution, Helix contributed significantly to the success of The Faircliff, laying the groundwork for future partnerships and innovative housing solutions.
