The new Marlow Heights Community Center is a vibrant, inclusive space that celebrates recreation, community, and nature—all in the heart of Marlow Heights. Designed to more than double the size of the original facility, the center now offers a wide range of features that reflect the community’s evolving needs, including a new gymnasium, fitness room, multipurpose community rooms, an inclusive playground, and a splash pad. This reimagined center is a model for inclusive design and environmental stewardship. Drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings, the center blends modern amenities with sustainable features like large windows, open green spaces, and walking paths that preserve the existing landscape and mature trees. A centrally located green space and thoughtfully landscaped gardens further connect visitors with nature. One of the most significant additions is the fully inclusive, gender-neutral restroom, a first-of-its-kind for M-NCPPC community centers. These spacious facilities include full-height walls, grab bars, and ample room for mobility aids—providing privacy, safety, and dignity for all. Accessibility and inclusion are at the heart of the design. The center features wheelchair ramps, accessible restrooms, sensory-friendly spaces, and flexible programming that welcomes everyone—regardless of age or ability. From fitness classes and workshops to community events, the facility is equipped to meet diverse needs and foster a strong sense of belonging. Outdoor recreation is a central focus. A large playground is designed for children of all ages and abilities, while the adjacent splash pad creates a joyful, interactive summer space. A new walking loop—designed in response to consistent community feedback—connects seamlessly to surrounding sidewalks and natural features, making it easy and enjoyable to explore the site. The existing tennis courts were also resurfaced and enhanced with new game striping to invite broader use. The Marlow Heights Community Center represents the result of deep collaboration between the design-build team, community members, and Prince George’s County stakeholders. Every decision was shaped by feedback and rooted in creating a welcoming, enduring community hub that reflects the spirit and needs of the Marlow Heights community.
