HITT completed the multi-phased, full-building renovation of the NBC 4 News studio in Washington, DC, transforming a live, occupied broadcast facility into a modern media environment—all while the station remained fully operational. Spanning 200,000 square feet, the complex renovation touched nearly every part of the building and was carefully phased to allow the network to continue daily operations without interruption. The scope included major upgrades to the newsroom and studio spaces, with the build-out of five production studios, control rooms, edit bays, newsrooms, audio production rooms, green rooms, dressing rooms, and dedicated production storage areas. These spaces were designed to support modern broadcast technology and workflows while improving acoustics, comfort, and flexibility for the production teams. Infrastructure upgrades were a critical component of the project. HITT executed complete overhauls of the HVAC system, chiller and boiler rooms, central equipment room, and electrical service infrastructure. New IDF rooms were built throughout the facility to support advanced networking and broadcast systems. The project also included new fire and water service lines, stormwater infrastructure, and a full roof replacement. Beyond the technical spaces, the renovation also delivered a range of amenities and support areas, including updated office space, multiple conference rooms, a commercial kitchen, fitness center, locker rooms, and three modernized elevators. A new four-story stair and steel structure was constructed, enclosed with full-height curtainwall, adding visual interest to the building’s façade while enhancing circulation and natural light. With multiple live broadcasts occurring daily, the HITT team maintained a clean, quiet, and tightly managed jobsite. Close coordination with NBC’s operations team was essential to ensure that critical systems remained online and accessible at all times. From hazardous material abatement to structural modifications and new interior finishes, every phase of the project was executed with care, precision, and a strong focus on minimizing disruption. The result is a fully modernized media facility that supports the evolving needs of a 24/7 news organization, delivered safely and efficiently in a highly sensitive, occupied environment.
