Level 6
Washington, DC
The Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (MCAAD) is a nonprofit immersive space dedicated to expanding access to education, health, and economic freedom. The rand* preconstruction team played a crucial role in the development of the GMP proposal, providing multiple budget submissions, value engineering proposals, and early release packages for custom sound-rated door assemblies and long-lead mechanical equipment. The MCAAD Level 6 spaces included the first-generation fit-out of the Founders Space above the historic Riggs National Bank and the Library/Reading Room in the Walker Building. Both spaces were completed in coordination with the base-building contractor, navigating a condensed 24-week schedule. Challenges included coordinating Tenant Interior work with ongoing base-building construction while ensuring compliance for DC Department of Buildings inspections. The Founders Space featured custom floor-to-ceiling millwork and wood elements designed for both aesthetic appeal and acoustic performance, including micro-perforated wood panels and STC-50+ custom door assemblies. The space was designed with flexibility, functioning as both a high-end office suite and event space, with adaptable audiovisual systems, sound-rated operable partitions, and expansive views of the Department of Treasury Building and The White House. A standout feature is the tailor-made reception desk, which can be reconfigured into a service bar for events. Similarly, the Library/Reading Room incorporated custom woodwork, with built-in shelving and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the atrium. Adjacent to the room is a secure VIP safe room, protected by ballistic steel walls and a specialized door assembly, designed to shield occupants from potential biological or chemical threats, with its own dedicated HVAC system and integrated security monitoring.
