Hughes Networking Systems is a 140,000-sf. manufacturing facility located in Rockville, Maryland, responsible for producing satellite and networking equipment. The facility’s plumbing system is served by an 8” incoming water main and consists of floor drains, cleanouts, vents, and (12) 8” roof drains. There are (4) sets of gang bathrooms, (6) single use bathrooms, (4) shower rooms, and (4) janitorial closets. Piping consists of Type L hard copper for water distribution; cast iron for storm piping; and a combination of schedule 40 galvanized stainless steel, copper, cast iron, and PVC for drainage and vent piping. All cold water piping, hot water piping, and storm piping is insulated. There are (11) State electric water heaters with Grundfos recric pumps serving the restrooms and break areas. The Chemical Storage room contains a Guardian eye/face wash station. Each janitorial closet has a Ferguson mop basin. Elkay in-wall bottle filling stations and bi-level ADA fountains are installed throughout the building. The remaining plumbing fixtures are a mix of Kohler, American Standard, and Delta. Mallick Mechanical also relocated and fitted Hughes’ existing Reverse Osmosis system to the company’s new location, coordinating a difficult transfer and requiring adjustments to the layout. There are (14) Trane Voyager III roof top units—(11) 40 ton, (2) 50 ton serving the mezzanine, and (1) 27.5 ton serving the first floor office space; (16) Trane Mitsubishi air handlers—3 Above Ai CRAC units; and (54) Trane VAVs. Most of the duct installed was rectangular with sound lining or internal insulation. The only spiral duct used on the project came off the dual exhaust fan serving the exhaust for the tenant’s equipment and in the reception area. The tenant required compressed air, a vacuum system, nitrogen, and de-ionized water for their manufacturing operations. WT furnished & installed (2) air compressors and (2) air dryers from Ingersoll Rand with SimplAir aluminum piping. A Becker industrial vacuum was installed with 6” stainless steel pipe. WT relocated the tenant’s nitrogen system and installed 2” SimplAir aluminum piping. WT relocated the tenant’s de-ionized water system and installed 2” schedule 80 CPVC.
