The Australian Embassy, originally constructed in 1964, has undergone a redesign by the renowned Australian architectural studio, Bates Smart, which was also responsible for the original design. The new embassy structure spans over 220,000 square feet and includes three underground parking floors, spacious public areas, exhibition galleries, office spaces, and event spaces. The project features various high-end Australian finishes, such as wood paneling found throughout the building. The modernized building has a vast glassed-in atrium and a large public space that offers a clear view of the White House. In the fall of 2019, Clark Construction contracted Helix Electric as the electrical subcontractor to assist with the Embassy's replacement. Helix was responsible for all the electrical systems, including the fire alarm systems and pathways for telecommunications and security systems.
