The Trex Company Headquarters facility was an excellent partnership between Hitt Contracting and RCD Electric. This beautiful office building is truly at the intersection where form meets function. The Winchester, VA based Trex Company recently surpassed $1.2B in revenues, and the leadership team for this innovative and environmentally conscientious company now directs their worldwide operations from this grand new office building. Concealed by the modern finishes and many exterior details, this building is actually a tilt-up, which demonstrates that even tile-up buildings can be beautiful with the right design. RCD installed vast quantities of conduit under the building slab and in the tile-up panels to conceal the conduit and reduce congestion in the ceilings. RCD's in-house BIM Team performed a BIM Level-of-Design 4 (LOD-4) virtual model of the electrical systems and made extensive use of our Trimble Robotic Total Station (RTS) to layout all underslab stub-ups and overhead racks, boxes, and fixtures. The power distribution system features a 2000kW natural gas stand-by generator, 2000A service, 3 electric rooms, and rooftop PV system. Due to the ongoing supply chain issues the main switchboard was delayed over 6 months. This caused the necessity for RCD to build a 2000A temporary service with a variety surplus/temporary equipment, affectionately referred to as "frandenservice". Upon receipt of the permanent switchboard, RCD performed a weekend service replacement effort to dismember frankenservice and install the permanent equipment. RCD installed the extensive five alarm system turn-key and roughed-in for all other low voltage systems. The lighting design included to (10) areas with integrated ceiling systems, for which RCD furnished and installed the entire decorative ceiling along with integrated lighting fixtures. RCD utilized our Trimble RTS to precisely layout the many anchors for these ceilings. The design also features extensive direct and indirect linear LED lighting throughout the interior and exterior. The exterior illumination and linear accent lighting gives the building a striking appearance to the traffic passing on Interstate I-81. We also dealt with the unique challenge of the lighting controls manufacturer going out of business in the middle of the project. This resulted in the development of many creative solutions to achieve full functionality and the related LEED points required for the Gold certification. The main entrance lobby steals the show with a 60' circular opening in the second-floor deck with a conical lighting and baffle system, all furnished and installed by RCD. The arrangement is designed to give the appearance of a picture of the starry skies taken with an open camera shutter.
