DCX

Washington, DC

Story

The DCX interior offices and amenities project consists of private and open offices, conference rooms, pantry areas, a podcast room, and an interconnecting stair between levels four and five. It also includes three separate terraces and the building’s main lobby. It is located in a brand-new building built as part of Phase 2 of The Wharf in Southwest DC. Highlights of the project include a custom built “Heritage Wall” that extends two floors up and is made of steel and custom wood fins. The wall also has custom wood shelves with underside light fixtures that illuminate the fourth floor main area. The office fronts are all glass with wood doors and wood paneling. The ceiling throughout each floor is made up of 9wood ceilings with Reggiani lighting from Italy. Most of the floors are polished concrete with carpet inside the offices and conference rooms, and large format tile in the lobby. The building’s lobby has a custom-built stone plinth that extends from the vestibule to the inside of the lobby separated by a glass wall. The walls extend 14 feet and the finishes on these are wood slats and a gutter tile that provides depth to the wall. The building is a first generation building which meant having a clean slate, however, many challenges were faced with the structural slabs and having PT cable in the top two floors. The team had to be careful when grinding the floors and core drilling for power in the open areas. Additionally, working on the lobby ceilings required additional logistics and safety procedures due to the high ceilings in that location.
