Story

The new headquarters for DC Health at Reunion Square represents monumental progress for the District’s government and their commitment to improving health outcomes in Southeast DC. In addition to this headquarters, Ward 8 has seen the opening of the new Whitman-Walker Max Robinson Center at the St. Elizabeths East campus, also built by DAVIS. Reunion Square is an upcoming redevelopment project totaling 1,500,000-SF of mixed-use space—DAVIS’ base building team continues to operate on the Reunion Square campus, and throughout the build-out of DC Health’s headquarters, both DAVIS teams worked in conjunction to ensure efficiency was maximized on both projects. The project was completed ahead of schedule to get tenants in at a set date, which was a huge accomplishment. Each item was tracked meticulously, and each trade performed their duties professionally and efficiently, resulting in a product of the highest quality. Teamwork was essential to the team’s success—coordination with the owner and design team was seamless, and pull planning sessions as well as weekly coordination meetings were held to maintain the work schedule. The most striking aspect of the build is in the terrace, which gives tenants an incredible view of the city. HVAC was a particular emphasis on this job—in a health-focused place, air flow and temperature are key. We installed a VRF system, which provides exceptional dehumidification and temperature control by rapidly adapting to changing loads, which results in energy savings. This was a special project, and DAVIS was able to deliver a multi-functional, modern, amenity-rich space for the workers of DC Health.
