Cisco DC Wharf New Project

Washington, Virginia

Story

The Cisco DC Wharf New Project comprises a client-facing 9,400 square foot office space situated within a trophy-class building at the Wharf. The space is designed to showcase Cisco’s brand and products. The office features high-end finishes, state-of-the-art technology integration, and breathtaking views of the Potomac River. Noteworthy features include NanaWall operable partitions, Transwall demountable partitions, and custom-fabricated European Rift Oak Veneers. From its inception, this project aimed not only for architectural excellence but also for sustainability and inclusivity, pursuing LEED Gold certification and a 30 percent supplier diversity spend. Throughout the project, the HITT team encountered unforeseen challenges that demanded proactive solutions. As we dove into the design and submittal process, it became clear that numerous materials required extensive review and coordination among subcontractors. Through proactive and open communication, we identified potential roadblocks early, allowing us to develop a comprehensive schedule and uphold stringent quality standards. We implemented strategies such as early release packages and resequencing workflows to streamline construction processes and mitigate time constraints. Our commitment to excellence compelled us to conduct mock-ups of critical components, such as the Steelcase raised access floor and wood floor systems, providing stakeholders with a tangible preview of the final product, and ensuring alignment with client expectations. Additionally, the extensive MEP and low voltage coordination presented another hurdle and required seamless integration, including Power Over Ethernet (POE) integration with various elements like lighting, branding, and furniture power. These challenges threatened to derail timelines and compromise quality, but our team approached them head-on. One of the pivotal challenges of this project involved striking the delicate balance between advancing our schedule while fostering positive relationships within the building. Interactions with the Secret Service became a routine affair, often causing road closures or heightened vetting of construction personnel. We maintained the rigidity required to plan deliveries and activities in advance, coordinating seamlessly with the loading dock and security while being nimble enough to respond to top-secret meetings. This exemplifies the extensive coordination power of our field team, who managed numerous moving parts while adhering to our schedule. Despite the obstacles, the Cisco DC Wharf New Project remains on track to exceed client expectations. HITT’s project team anticipates a project completion ahead of the target date of May 24, 2024, demonstrating our proactive approach and innovative problem-solving to create a schedule that ensures timely completion despite unexpected impacts.
