The Arlington Fire Station No. 8 project was complex and challenging, showcasing our team's expertise and dedication to delivering exceptional results. The project, which commenced in June 2021, involved the construction of a temporary station to cater to the community's needs. Simultaneously, work on the new 21,000 sf building began, with the expansion phase scheduled from Summer 2022 to Spring 2024. The second phase, set to conclude by the end of summer 2024, will see the installation of three underground fuel tanks beneath a new parking lot, complete with spots dedicated to electric vehicles. We managed the two-phase project, overseeing the demolition of the old fire station, construction of the new building, and site improvements while integrating innovative and environmentally friendly features like a green roof with solar panels and high-performance spray foam insulation to create a sustainable and energy-efficient building that sets a new standard for fire stations. Undoubtedly, the project was not without its share of challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant delays, long lead times, price escalation, and material shortages. However, our team's effective management and coordination allowed us to navigate these obstacles and deliver the project on schedule, showcasing our resilience and commitment to our stakeholders. Another challenge was encountering contaminated soils during the demolition and removal of the old gasoline and fuel tanks. Thus, specialized remediation and disposal procedures were required. Moreover, the project's small size and increased building size posed logistical challenges, and the location on a busy road, Route 29, with a Metro bus stop, required careful coordination with VDOT and Metro to ensure minimal disruptions while receiving deliveries providing site access and performing the site improvement work. Ultimately, the Fire Department aims to operate the new building by Summer 2024; the Fire Station 8 project demonstrates MCN Build's commitment to excellence in construction, overcoming unforeseen conditions, and meeting completion dates despite significant challenges. Our team's expertise and dedication made this innovative and sustainable project a success, and we're honored to have played a part in creating a new standard for fire stations.
