The scope of work included architectural demolition, complete replacement of 10,000 SF of slab on grade, which includes 25 horizontal tie-backs to support the basement walls and 80 vertical micropiles to lock-in and support the new slab on grade. This was followed by a full tenant fit-out for the Office of Student Equity and Inclusion. There were a number of challenges and obstacles, specifically with the installation of the horizontal tie-backs as we have to navigate around and avoid obstructions, including a duct bank which holds the power laterals for multiple buildings. This is a very unique approach to replacing a slab on grade in an occupied building. There were many opportunities for high level problem solving, working with the design team, structural engineers, and GU to find creative solutions to the obstacles that are uncovered along the way.
