1150 18th St. Lower Level Amenities
Washington, District of Columbia
This project transformed underutilized storage space and a small atrium into a large amenities level featuring a conference center, huddle rooms, semi-private banquettes, catering facilities, gym, studio, and locker rooms. The focal point of the space is a new dramatic mosaic floor paired with living garden and millwork walls. The project required extensive structural work to open the new lower lobby to the elevator bays while extending the main level’s lobby to open pathways around the main level. This structural work included both CRFP as well as structural steel. These elements are carefully concealed behind millwork and glass. The new lighting, combined with the tall atrium windows, floods the areas with bright, welcoming light. The center piece of the project is the custom mosaic compass rose inlayed in the tile floor. Following the mosaic tile through wide hallways, guests are welcomed into a large, reconfigurable conference center. More huddle rooms and small group areas are found just beyond the conference center. The Lower-Level Amenities are rounded out with the full equipped Gym and studio. Custom made, matching windows and backlit mirrors surrounded by millwork provide the illusion of daylight in this below grade floor. When walking through the space, or while viewing it from the upper levels, the craftsmanship of all the trades come together to create a unique space.
