Dutch’s Dungeon Restaurant Addition

Frederick, Maryland

Story

Dutch’s Daughter is a highly rated and elegant upscale restaurant located in Frederick, MD with a casual downstairs bar and dining area called the Dungeon. Dustin constructed the original 30,000 SF three-story restaurant in 1999. We were honored to work with the owner again on the completion of an addition to the Dungeon to include an additional dining room, enclosed patio, and roof top terrace with a custom gazebo bar in 2023. The new expansive patio space and roof top bar addition provides an inviting al fresco atmosphere to the establishment’s dining experience. The Dutch's Daughter expansion project involved the redesign and enclosure to a 1,255 SF patio, structural reinforcement for a roof top bar over the enclosure, and the creation of a 975 SF outdoor patio space. Dutch’s Daughter and the Dungeon are elegantly decorated with ornate millwork and metal accent details, and the project took care to incorporate the precise matching of finishes in the addition. The renovation and addition occurred partially below grade on the first level of the existing restaurant and included a new elevated walkway, hardscape renovations, and general mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire alarm system work. The covered hardscaped patio features a brick veneer exterior and brick patio garden walls. The walls are adorned with gas lanterns atop pillars, wrought iron guardrail pickets with a pattern of ball and fleur-de-lis finials, and a scalloped gate. The ceiling of the Dungeon dining room addition consists of exposed ceiling and linear solid wood paneling, ceiling fans, and light fixtures. A walkway leads to the roof top bar and terrace with a magnificent gazebo bar. The terrace is hardscaped with a decorative railing. The gazebo bar features a standing seam copper form roof with a finial topping, dormer vent, tongue and grove wood plank ceiling, ornamental valance, a ceiling fan, and light fixtures. The gazebo bar is fitted with a beautiful granite countertop, cabinetry, and beverage and bar equipment. Dutch’s Daughter and The Dungeon remained an open and operational restaurant and special event space throughout the construction process. Careful care and planning was required by our project team, Project Manager Scott Decker, and Superintendent Dave Arnold to ensure there were minimal disruptions to the establishment due to construction work. Site utilization planning allowed for staging and material laydown in the rear parking lot. Signage alerted restaurant patrons of ongoing construction activity. Proper measures were taken to control noise, dust, and vibrations. The project team also worked together to develop a new and safe egress plan for the restaurant during construction. Dustin’s project team worked tirelessly to ensure the permitting process was timely and to develop a material logistics and delivery plan so the schedule for the project would remain on schedule for the restaurant and its patrons. We are proud of the custom detailed work that went into the design and construction of the addition project for Dutch’s Daughter and the Dungeon.
