Back in 2003 and 2004, it became increasingly apparent that to accommodate Otsego’s growing student population and to properly meet the academic, technological, athletic and other extracurricular needs of the Otsego’s students, major changes were needed. In September of 2004, after great participation from CSM Group and the community, voters in the district agreed upon $57 million in bonds. From there the idea for a new high school and other renovations were born. The Otsego Public Schools project consisted of many different components. Renovations to three elementary schools, middle school, and the current high school were just a few of the district-wide capital improvement program. Ultimately, the largest portion of the project was the construction of the new high school. The new high school project was started in the spring of 2006 and had an original target occupancy of December 2007. However, the project occupied early for the return of the students in August. Otsego High School is a 208,000 square foot new facility including Media Center, Science Laboratories, and advanced technology for classrooms, such as wireless and smart boards. The school consists of two gymnasiums, one practice and one competition, a weight room, and an indoor running track. A full-service, commercial kitchen and Great Hall, with access to an outdoor courtyard, complement the new common areas for the students to enjoy. This high school also features a two- tier auditorium that seats 800 that will be used by students and the community.
