Flooring

Story

Design Plus provided extensive programming, architectural and interior design, construction documents, and complete site planning/landscape architecture services for the conversion of an existing school building, situated in an established neighborhood, into a multi-activity daytime community center for seniors. The total project included renovation of the 29,000 SF abandoned school building and 17,000 SF of new construction. The floor plan was designed to accommodate spaces for adult day care, a large multi-purpose space with stage, kitchen, and dining area, library, arts and crafts room, choir room, lecture and seminar areas, woodworking shop, sewing studio, and health and fitness areas. The project was completed in May 1987 with a total construction cost of $2,200,000. Design Plus was later hired to design an addition to the existing senior center consisting of a 7,884 SF pool and locker room, 1,476 SF fitness/exercise area, 4,950 SF wood shop, 2,756 SF seminar room, 1,548 SF health center, and 2,668 SF of circulation and support spaces. Our services included site planning/development, landscape plan, civil engineering coordination, architectural, structural engineering coordination, interior design including finish and materials selection, and design/build review of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering. The addition was completed in July 1998 with a total construction cost of $3,451,604.
