Food Service

Wayland Union High School students are enjoying healthier, fresher meals through the opening of a new kitchen/cafeteria. The food service and dining area was one of several areas receiving improvements as part of the $39 million district bond passed in 2008. The school received an overall facility upgrade.

The cafeteria offers a made-daily sub and salad station, a whole-grain sandwich bar, freshly made pizzas, homestyle bowl-meals, soups and more.

A Mongolian style grill allows students to mix vegetables, meats and sauces, as well as a choice of rice, pasta or tortillas, and watch as the cafeteria staff members cook them into one dish.

In addition to motion-activated LED lighting, the cafeteria includes a number of cost-savings measures including a convection/steam oven, an induction cooker and absolutely no fryers in the entire kitchen. The convection/steam oven allows the staff to cook with dry heat, moist heat or full steam.

Approximately 900 students attend Wayland Union High School and the expanded cafeteria can feed up to 500 individuals at one time, allowing the school to offer two lunch periods, instead of the three they previously offered.

The Outtake Store, a grab-and-go convenience shop, offers packaged meals for students needing a quick bite to eat before, during and after school, spirit wear, and more.
