The Dwelling Place 101 Sheldon Avenue

Grand Rapids, Michigan

General-Contractor

Story

Originally constructed in 1917, the building at 101 Sheldon had been vacant for more than twenty years when the Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids acquired the property. They enlisted Triangle to completely renovate and re-purpose the building into two unique occupied spaces. The first floor is now home to the Cherry Street Dental Clinic, while the 2nd floor is occupied by the corporate offices of Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids.

The initial challenge Triangle faced was ensuring the exterior of the building met the historical requirements. Updating the windows to match the original profile utilizing a modern day product proved to be a challenging task. By working closely with the window manufacturer, Triangle was able to meet this historical requirement.

The corporate offices for Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids occupy the second level of the renovated facility. Large windows enable abundant natural lighting and a view of the outdoors, while the rich wood and exposed ceiling beams give this office a warm historic feel. The project is located in the Heartside District, an area once considered the heart of the city.
