Victoria Dam Penstock

Victoria, Michigan

General-Contractor

Story

As part of an overall upgrade of the penstock from a wooden system to a steel spiral weld pipe, Moyle Construction was responsible for the installation of the ballast support system for the new pipe.  6,050 lineal feet of subgrade was prepped and replaced with gravel, contoured to match the shape and size of the new pipe.  Moyle Construction used a custom designed excavator bucket to install the gravel to match this specific curvature.  Ten thrust blocks were installed at critical locations in the run of pipe to provide additional strength and prevent movement of the pipe.  As part of the scope of work, drainage structures were installed around the penstock to improve drainage from the upper areas surrounding the site.
