Story

In 1996, Mekus Tanager completed a 27,000 square foot office relocation for SMG Marketing Group, a health care industry market research and software development firm based in Chicago, from a series of Gold Coast residential brownstone buildings to the 31st floor of the John Hancock Center.  One of the client's goals for this project was to maintain the unique, residential like atmosphere of the previous space while developing an efficient, productive working environment for the staff.

Mekus Tanagers’ solution involved the innovative use of colors and materials as well as the incorporation of Herman Miller Ethospace furniture systems throughout the space    from the private offices to the open plan workstations.  As a full service marketing agency and software provider, SMG also wanted a space with a lot of character, which Mekus Tanager achieved through the use of curved walls, angles, ovals and a high degree of light and color.
