Mound Cemetery :: Racine, Wisconsin

Racine, Wisconsin

Architectural

Story

Mekus Tanager designed a much-needed addition to Racine, Wisconsin's historic Mound Cemetery.  The new garden crypts are the first construction on the site since the original cemetery buildings were built in 1952.  The new complex will provide much needed inventory to Racine’s historic city cemetery, which had run out of space for new burials.  In total, the project provides 440 crypts, which house bodies, and 480 niches, which hold cremated remains.

The new buildings were designed to complement and match the character of the historic architecture which they would be joining.  An important part of the project was the restoration of a historic fountain, located at the focal point of the complex.
