Motorola Mobility “Community Hub” - IL

Libertyville, Illinois

Story

MTI won the design competition, Design Challenge 2011, to transform Motorola Mobility’s Libertyville Cafeteria into a flexible and dynamic multi-use dine/live/work space. After reviewing a variety of concepts with the client, the design team used the feed back to infuse many concepts into the chosen scheme. The goal is to create an “empowered community” that is able to gather with colleagues and other creatives when the juices are flowing, grab a bite to eat when they are running low on fuel, find inspiration through unexpected encounters, or simply get away from their desk for a change in scenery. To provide this empowerment, the program goes well beyond dining, offering a gaming lounge, indoor/outdoor space, video conference rooms, vending stations, a coffee bar, work areas, and a variety of other special places. Open and fluid, the plan also accommodates large events, town hall meetings and other functions.
