All Saints Cemetery Chapels and Administration Complex :: Des Plaines, Illinois

Story

The new complex at All Saints is a multi-purpose building, which combines administrative functions with a work room and chapels.  This consolidated design allows greater flexibility, enabling the cemetery staff to run the operations of the cemetery from a central location.  By combining these three functions into a single, compact building, we were able to recapture 2.7 acres of land at the project site for ground burial.  Not only is land conserved, inventory is increased.  It's good for the environment - more green space - and good for the cemetery's bottom line - greater inventory.

  • All Saints was designed to take maximum advantage of daylight, and diminish reliance on artificial lighting. There is natural light in 95% of the space.
  • 27.7% less energy will be used at All Saints than in a traditional building by specifying energy efficient fixtures.
  • With a combination of a vegetated tray system and solar-reflective roofing material, 91% of the roof reduces the heat island effect, which occurs when dark surfaces convert light to heat and raise the temperature of the local microclimate.
  • During construction, approximately 98% of waste and debris was diverted from the landfill to recycling plants.
