Stamford, Connecticut
General-Contractor
The Taubman Company, an international developer of unique retail environments, called on Konover Construction and JPRA Architects to transform a dated urban mall into a vibrant downtown destination. The existing Town Center Mall was a bunker-style indoor mall set in the center of a structured parking garage, cut off from street visibility. The dramatic new mall addition is set on an open pedestrian plaza featuring seven new restaurants, the state's largest Barnes & Noble, a new food court on the top level of the existing mall, and other upgrades. Within the existing mall, Konover constructed an open dining area and a Disney/Looney Toons-themed child play area. The project included a 120,000 sf addition (including a 35,370 sf outdoor plaza with elaborate snowmelt system) and a 20,000 sf renovation. The transformed mall has become a downtown destination and helped re-energize the downtown area.
