Kensington Church - Education Wing

Troy, Michigan

Architectural

Story

The brick and stone clad 3-story addition contains over 68,000 square feet of meeting rooms, administrative offices, and a sound/recording studio. The addition doubles the size of the Church and quadruples the amount of meeting rooms that serve the 5,000-plus weekend attendance. The entry facade features a canted wall supporting a glass-covered canopy and sunscreens above large lobby windows at each floor. By positioning the addition on an acute angle next to the existing auditorium, a new "V" shaped courtyard is created. The bench lined walkway and extensive landscaping in the courtyard provides a tranquil setting for quiet reflection. The third floor houses the Church's administrative offices. The layout places the common area activities in a central spine with offices and workstations flanking either side. The Church wanted to create a fun environment that encouraged staff to freely think out of the box. The solution created by JTAI is a series of undulating and angled walls defining the edges of the various departments. The boldly colored walls are punctuated with various shaped openings and highlighted with unique wall sconces. The result is a work place alive with creativity where staff is consistently redefining excellence. "I have felt that your staff has operated with integrity and has been easy to talk with. Good communication and follow-up has kept us moving on the right track. Overall I believe that JTAI has quality individuals producing quality work. I would use and/or recommend you to anyone without reservation." Eric Winter (Former Director of Finance)
