Kensington Church - Chapel

Troy, Michigan

Architectural

Story

The Church is continuing its growth with the completion of a new 400-seat Chapel at its Troy campus. The 12,000 square foot addition to the Church is able to accommodate wedding and funeral services, as well as provide a place of intimate scale for small presentations and performances. The spirituality of the Chapel is captured in the 20-foot wide skylight, which extends along the entire ridge of the space. A blending of contemporary details and eclectic furnishings enhances the rich character of the space. Exposed timber trusses, wood and fabric panels, metal balcony rails, and other elements are handled with contemporary detailing similar to that of the original building. "JTAI was able to create the unique balance of providing an environment in which our design team felt heard, yet [JTAI took] the strong, creative initiative required to achieve our goals. Their professionalism and genuine concern were constant throughout our process. Thank you for your significant partnership in the development of the campus." Mark Nelson (Arts Director)
