The Bachelor Retreat

Story

This bachelor retreat was designed with a very special client in mind who was recently widowed and needed a fresh start with a new home  designed with his specific needs in mind.  It was also important that the home  reflect his fun personality and had a  style  that was luxurious and yet approachable and comfortable enough to call home.    This client had a very busy schedule and asked that the project be handled from start to finish including the move out of the old home and the move in to the new.   This required a tremendous amount of coordinating with movers, estate sales people and the designer's  own staff.  They performed their unique “turn key service” so that house was completely ready for move in without any involvement from the client.  Some examples of this service were:   His clothing was put away in the closets and drawers, his dishes were both purchased and put away, toiletries purchased and put away, his family photos were framed and hung and they even added his favorite snacks in the bar and butler pantry.   The main level has huge great room that can handle large groups of guests and separate sitting area with luxurious leather chairs and sofas and a separate large screen television.  The master suite is a work of art with special features such as a large fireplace, hand made Italian wallpaper on the ceiling and an attached massive bathroom with custom shower and soaking tub.  Just off of the bathroom is his huge personal closet with floor to ceiling built ins and glass doors that can be closed for privacy.  The lower level is equally impressive.  His family is important and it needed to be comfortable for family and guests to visit.  It has an open floor concept  for the main area with  a billiard table, second complete bar and large movie area with a leather sectional large enough to seat 12-15.  Part of the great room features a glassed in work out room containing state of the art equipment that would make any personal trainer envious.  There are three bedrooms for overnight guests with their own private bathrooms.    One of the most unique features of the home is the beautiful walk-in wine room with hundreds of built in spaces for his extensive wine collection.  It is full of luxurious rich wood, gorgeous granite counters and natural brick floors.  One of the biggest surprises lies at the top of the stairs at the back entry.  The client needed separate living quarters for on-site staff.  The bonus apartment is complete with kitchen, living space, bedroom, laundry and bathroom.  The interior design details needed to put this home together required over a year of planning.  Every intricate detail was chosen with intensive thought  from the coordination of the exterior to the interior colors, the warm luxurious feel throughout,  the grandness of the rooms, the ease of maintenance,  the state of the art electronics and appliances and seamless cohesiveness throughout.  The key goals and accomplishment exceeded his expectations:  comfort, cohesive  style, ease of maintenance, space for guests, bonus apartment for caretaker, large bar areas for entertaining and a custom wine room.  The client was able to seamlessly drive up to his home, walk in the door and feel right at home.
