Modern Scandinavian

Story

Our outside design was inspired by a family trip taken to Scandinavia a few years ago.   Our homeowners were taken back by the beauty of the landscape and how the local homes took advantage of the space and utilized their outdoor living space.
We were lucky enough to be building on a site that was nice and high up with dramatic views of a large pond.  The land was peppered with mature oak trees that provide privacy and a canopy that added to the stunning property we were working with.   Our concept was to bring comfortable and unique living space outside that could be used most of the year.   It had to feel very high-end, yet comfortable and inviting for everyday use.   We were designing and building for a large family, so the space also had to be fun and durable.  We had 4 design areas of our outdoor space that we focused on.   First being our pool.   A custom, free-formed concrete pool was design to feel as if it was part of the landscaping, yet be a piece of architectural in itself.  On top of that, it was constructed with an automatic "fence-free" cover and water system that is chemical free.   The second area was our grilling station.   This had to be modern and accommodate a built in gas grill and green egg.   We constructed the entire area with a covered roof, a panelized concrete wall, and heated covered sitting area next to the grill,  The third space was the screened-in porch.  This was designed to be a second eating area for a family of 8.  Floor to ceiling screens gave and unobstructed view to the pond and pool.  This space would be used everyday.  The last was the landscaped areas around it.  Large ledge stone walkways, concrete paths, and custom barn beam pool shed finished off the entire space wonderfully.
