Having a larger, growing family with several kids and wanting to stay in their home, the clients were open to expanding their existing kitchen space to include a new adjacent sunroom/ dining area and new covered porch...replete with skylights (3), privacy wall with transom and a media connection for entertainment. The new dining space has a vaulted ceiling covered in a stained bead-board and accented with a white trim detail. Though the existing foyer was open the doorways servicing the back of the home were relatively short, so the decision was made to arch the openings to gain height and compliment an added, expansive arch into the new dining/sunroom space. On a budgetary note, we recycled one of the main windows of the house...picture with flanking casements...without sacrificing the architecture consistency and it blends well with the new casements added in the dining/sunroom. We also created a 'media room' out of an existing, seldom-used front living room and added 8-foot twin pocket doors for privacy, if desired. Given the extent of the renovations and additions, they are ready to enjoy another 25 years with up-to-date cabinetry and appliances and a new covered porch, surrounded by the beautiful wooded landscape!
