Story

The Macatawa Greenway is a nonprofit 501c3 corporation whose mission is to preserve and connect open and green spaces, streams, and natural lands to create greenway corridors to benefit people and wildlife, and develop recreational opportunities along these greenway corridors where appropriate. The Macatawa Greenway plans an eventual connection between Windmill Island to the west and a 300 to 900 acre park 8 miles away in the center of Zeeland Township. To date, the Macatawa Greenway has obtained over $7 million in lands and grants toward that goal. Driesenga & Associates, Inc (DA&) has provided alignment surveying, topographic and property surveys used for property acquisitions and trail planning. D&A Engineers and Landscape Architects have provided trail planning and design for the master plan, including the layout for pedestrian bridges and bridge underpass design. Our Geotechnical department has also provided soil investigations for the necessary structural considerations. Coordination has been orchestrated between the local governments, the MDEQ and MDOT, along with discussion of grant applications, tunnel design, coordination with CSX, as well as presentations to potential donors and funding sources.
