Story

Design Plus completed the initial master plan study in 1996 that included a strategy for the preservation of the exterior of this historic structure in downtown Grand Rapids. We went on to complete the design development and construction documents for the historic renovation of the facility. Renovated spaces included the Mica Library (1,161 SF), Terryberry Gallery (580 SF), 650 SF multi-purpose room, the President’s Room (1,169 SF), Vanderhyde Foyer (565 SF), the Idema Room (530 SF), the 658-seat Royce Auditorium including stage and back stage areas (7,650 SF), and the Dexter Ballroom (2,900 SF). The project included architectural renovations, interior finish upgrades, exterior building facade renovations, miscellaneous work related to fire suppression, life safety, lighting, HVAC, acoustics, and sound control systems, stage rigging and draperies, orchestra shell, and exterior site work. The project was completed in December of 1998 for a total construction cost of $3,000,000.
