Grand Rapids, Michigan
Terra-Cotta
Harrison Park Elementary and Harrison Park Middle Schools occupy a single circa 1925 building at 1440 Davis NW. They re-opened the renovated elementary school portion last year. This year marks the completion of the middle school. The elementary and middle schools occupy either end of the renovated building, with common areas and administrative offices situated between them. D.C. Byers Company/Grand Rapids, Inc. crews were able to retain the building's historic charm by rebuilding the deteriorating terra cotta buttresses and crafting new molds to replace terra cotta that could not be saved. D.C. Byers also prepped the foundation walls for the new addition, sealed all construction joints and stained limestone walls to retain the look and feel of the original building.
