Kellogg Company WKKI Expansion

Battle Creek, Michigan

Construction-Management

Story

The WKKI project began in May 2008. This project includes a precast plant, a steel office building and an interior remodel. The project had a very large site work package that included demolition of the existing buildings and the moving of the existing parking lots.

With regards to LEED features, Bio-swales were installed to harness storm water run-off and the building will have a highly reflective, white roof.

CSM installed over 400 auger-cast piles due to the contaminated water into the Brownfield Site. CSM also installed monitoring wells within the new, pilot plant. In order to keep the project on schedule, CSM will work closely with the building occupants to move the existing equipment into the new, pilot plant in a timely manner to avoid any down time in Kellogg productivity.

CSM Group continually works hard to ensure spending is minimal. Within the WKKI project, our CSM project team reduced the snowmelt package by $205,000. The team also decided to use Ceramic tile in lieu of Porcelain which saved $10,790. Furthermore, the team deleted the hydraulic scaffold system, which was in the base bid, and use supplied scaffolding and enclosure instead, which saved $35,432.  In addition to these, other various value engineering items have saved Kellogg’s an additional $30,208 to date.
