CSM Group completed construction of the Allegan General Hospital Emergency Room Addition and Renovation project. This undertaking included separate ownership of two building areas within one overall building.

The medical office building portion, which includes 18,000 sf of new addition and 2,000 sf of existing medical office building renovations, is owned and operated by Bronson Properties Corporation. These new and renovated areas are entirely occupied by Allegan Medical Clinic PC. The hospital building portion includes 12,000 sf of new additions and renovation of 4,000 sf of existing hospital area. The new addition portion is home to AGH’s new expanded Emergency Room Department. The renovated area was an expansion of the Radiology Department.

Construction was completed in three phases starting in October 1999 with the construction of a new loading dock, elevator tower and temporary Emergency Room entrance. These components were completed in February 2000 allowing for construction of the new additions between the existing medical office and hospital buildings. Construction continued until completion in February 2001. Once Allegan General Hospital and Allegan Medical Clinic occupied both of these buildings, the renovations began in the vacated areas. Renovation work was completed shortly thereafter in May 2001.

This three-phase process presented many challenges. One of which included construction of the new addition within three feet of an existing medical office building which was occupied and operational and was subsequently demolished when the new medical office building was occupied and operational. These challenges were coordinated closely with both medical and administrative staff from Allegan General Hospital and Allegan Medical Clinic along with local and state building, fire marshal and health department authorities.
