Story

After the successful installation of the first Runway Safe green EMAS on Runway 22L in 2014, Chicago Midway International Airport has decided to replace the remaining three EMAS beds with the Runway Safe product. This project will first replace the EMAS on Runway 13C then move on to Runway 31C; the final bed will be replaced in 2016. The new Runway Safe EMAS on 13C will measure 207-ft in length and 170-ft in width. Runway 31C’s EMAS bed will measure 187-ft in length and 170-ft in width. Each runway project will require 3 consecutive nights of demolition, site prep and anchor placement. Then, during a 56-hour 
straight runway closure, the greenEMAS system will be installed.
