State of Michigan Adrian Training School :: Addition of 257 Closed Circuit Security Cameras

Adrain, Michigan

Engineering

Story

Design Program:  Byce & Associates, Inc. provided a digital security camera system for the State of Michigan's Training School in Adrian, Michigan. The cameras will be in vandal resistant housing color, fixed, mpeg 4 format, 640x480 resolution, at 5 frames per second, and are TCP/IP based running over an independent local area network exclusively for the security cameras.  The system is also designed to retrieve six months of stored images. The security LAN has 100 Mbps switched copper ports to each camera with a 1000 Mbps fiber optic backbone. The head end consists of multiple servers and a 33 Tb storage area network. The system was designed using non-propriety software and hardware that can be easily upgraded and expanded as required.

Design Challenges:  The largest challenge was working with older existing buildings. We were faced with running a lot of surface mounted raceway in the existing rooms. The other challenges included the placement of the cameras for maximum viewing and the design of the large storage area network.

Scope of Engineering Services:  Communications cabling pathway design, camera placement,

local area network design, storage area network design and security management system design.
